Dearest Tuesday class,
I wanted to give you the heads-up about the next assignment for Techno.09 class. Of course, you may have already visited the Assignment page at

http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09/classwork/assignments.html
in which case this is no surprise.

On our return to school, we will be creating web pages. The content of these pages will be a 3 step How-to or tutorial. You can choose your area of expertise, break it down into 3 easy-to-follow steps, and ultimately share your knowledge with the world once your page is added to the IHS website.
There are examples of tutorials at www.learn2.com and www.ehow.com to give you some ideas/guidelines for writing concise instructions in step-by-step form. These are examples to jumpstart your imagination, your tutorial idea should be your own.

So the homework over this October break is to submit your proposal tutorial topic to me via email [techno09teacher@mac.com]. I will send a confirmation email once I have received your proposal.

Do not hesitate to email questions if you need further clarification about this assignment.

You were the [2nd, 5th, etc.] in your class to submit your proposal. Thanks.
Here are some considerations when 'designing' your tutorial...

1. K.I.S.S.
Keep it Super Simple. Ideally, a 3-step tutorial works well for the class website pages because it will fit on one/your page and succinctly inform your audience in an easily digestible format. If your original idea is large and needs more than 3 steps to explain (i.e. How to Rule the Universe), you might consider breaking it down into a smaller component of the original idea, (i.e. 3 Steps to a Better Planet or How to Weed a Backyard Garden)

2. Format
Give it an intriguing TITLE.
SUMMARIZE what you are about to guide them through and why you are the ultimate source of this knowledge to be shared.
NUMBER THE STEPS for clarity.

3. Visualize the visuals
The next step of this project will be to illustrate your tutorial with photographs or drawings or screen grabs. One image per step would be ideal if it helps to clarify your words. The written word has the ultimate power to inform, add a strong visual and your information comes alive. Write the tutorial first, we'll talk in class about how to gather images to enhance it next.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions if any of this is unclear, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
See you in class, Jeannene

Hello!
The semester draws to a close and your final project for Techno.09 will be due the week of December 17. There will be no final exams for Techno.09 (thank you, Jeannene), but your webpage tutorial must be handed in before the winter break.

The in-class webpage demo has fallen victim to 'gremlins in the machine' so I must redirect you to the online 'recipe' for this assignment.
Everything you need to build your webpage in Dreamweaver is located @
http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09/classwork/webpage.html
You can print it out to use as a guide to follow while you work.

For the purposes of this project and your grade, I ask that you follow these design guidelines to create similar looking pages for inclusion in the Techno.09 website. Your own creativity will be unleashed in future pages and projects.

If you still need to size and save your gathered images for the webpage, check out
http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09/classwork/imagegathering.html#sized
to refresh your memory of these Photoshop procedures.

You will have time to work on this project in class in the next few
weeks. As always, I am available in the TechnoLounge and by email
[techno09teacher@mac.com] to answer questions and clarify.

Dearest Class of 2005!

We'll be going over the quiz in class this week. Your grades are posted online.

What's next? Two things for the week you return to school.

Please email techno09teacher@mac.com and yourself

  • The title of the book you have chosen to review.
Start working independently on writing this review for a favorite book you would recommend that others read. Consider this a
sales pitch; convincing, positive, and intriguing for any potential reader. Include the title, author, number of pages, and your
    insights and opinions.
We will also include a thumbnail of the book's cover with this review. You may be able to find the thumbnail at
www.amazon.com or scan a copy from the library or your personal collection.

  • The quote, lyric, line of poetry, or personal credo that you plan to use on your opening splash screen.
These are words you live by or find inspiring. If they are someone else's words, you must credit them, of course.

I look forward to receiving your email with these two items enclosed.
This email assignment is due before next week's class meets.
Welcome back !

P.S. Start thinking about the classwork you are most proud of and the best way to display it on a web page...

All this assignment information is accessible online. Check it weekly to stay on top of your Techno.09 classwork.

If yours isn't there or not linked, check the bulletin board in the TechLounge, a final round of corrections are hanging patiently, waiting for pickup.

Yours must be corrected and a fresh printout handed to me by the end of class this week.

Dear Class of 2005

1. The Assignment
The last weeks of this semester will be devoted to digital storytelling. Your final project will be a 1 to 3 minute digital movie incorporating still images (webfound, scanned, or created in Photoshop), a scripted voice-over narration to be recorded or videotaped as part of the soundtrack along with music, you may choose.

2. Getting started: Making your predictions for the future
There are several steps to creating a good movie. First and foremost, you will want to start with a strong foundation: your script. Since you'll be illustrating the future you are predicting, consider your words as the guide to the visuals you will eventually create. You can brainstorm on this outside of class, so below are some ideas to jump-start your imagination.

Your prediction/narration script can have the viewpoint of:
a fortune teller, seeing into the future and telling how it will be
OR a newscaster reporting the days events as if they were happening at that moment in time
OR your future-self reminiscing about the changes you've witnessed in your long lifetime
OR anything else, after all, this is the future.

For those of you that work from the visual to the verbal ...
You can describe the 'world you foresee' as: a futuristic locale, your home, a place for future pastimes
OR a series of postcards from your future world travels
OR what you wear, eat, drink, how you will communicate with others, tools/gadgets you will use in your daily life
OR the present day world plus time (10 years, 20 years, 30 years)

3. Due dates and deadlines for this project
Because of the limited time we have in class each week, as always, I will encourage you to plan ahead and come to class prepared to work on this project. Each deadline will be a portion of your final grade. Miss a deadline and your grade will suffer. The script of your story is just the beginning*. Bookmark http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09/classwork/index.html for easy reference to the deadline calendar.

You will need to submit your finished script for my approval via email or hand me a hard copy before Monday, May 6th! prior to recording it as your voice-over. Email a copy to yourself (cc:) to use for the storyboard deadline.

*The next step is storyboarding or planning which images you will match up with your voice-over/script.

Stretch your creativity and imagination to its limits.

Yours so very truly, Jeannene

P.S. Still due: Classwork webpage. Check the guidelines @ http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09/classwork/classwork.html Your grade is degrading each week you don't complete and hand in this simple assignment.

In class this week of April 29th: short show and tell about linking your webpages to your completed splash page to complete your website. Website is due by end of your regular class, the week of May 6th

•Whew! you made the deadline and made the grade! Congrats on your A!

• One day late so you recieved a B!

• Whew! Two days late so you recieved a C!

Print out a storyboard (or pick one up in the TechLounge) and start doodling and planning the images you need to collect to match/illustrate your script.

http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09.04/assignments/16storyboard.html

Break up the script into manageble chunks/sentences and draw (stick figures are OK) or describe what you'll see when you synch it with your voiceover. I'll need to spot check your storyboard by next class.

More deadlines to come in the future, Jeannene

Dear Class of 2005!

Most of you know, I was super impressed with the scripts turned in for the Future/Prediction movie. After talking to several diligent students about assignments expected from you in your other classes, I am adjusting this assignment to aide in completion before the school year ends.

From your amazing script, choose 2 to 3 sentences from your story to record and illustrate. They should total about 1 minute of recorded voice time (instead of 3 minutes). Choose your most vivid and expressive verbiage about the future and those which will yield the most rich and dense imagery you can collage in Photoshop. This is an editing process, which will ultimately cut down on the time it takes to finish this movie project. I will assemble these shorter movies into a larger collaborative effort from the mighty Class of 2005.

You must still:
Record your voiceover • http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09.04/assignments/18audio.html
Gather and prepare rich and dense images • http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09/classwork/prep.html
Assemble these parts in Premiere to create your movie • http://www.jeannene.net/techno.09.04/assignments/20premiere.html

Time is slipping away, so I will expect you to come prepared to class (check the Assignment page) and use your class time to complete these final tasks.
Plan for your success in this class!

For those that have not handed in the checklist: Your website is STILL DUE!

Jeannene
Techno.09

P.S. Meanwhile, your complete future stories and predictions are online!

If you need to give me a revised version for posterity, please do so by email.
Please spell check before handing in a fresher version.

Dear Straggler of 2005!
I have not found evidence of your completed (yet overdue) work on the designated server in the Classwork or Website folder.

The classwork webpage was due before the April break (!!!!)

This assignment is complete when...
         your completed xxwork.html file
         and any linked image files
are copied to the designated server's Classwork folder
and I have a clean printout

Since the classwork webpage must be completed before you can link to it from your Splash page to complete your Website, I will accept it along with your completed website folder, along with that clean printout.

To ensure that you receive proper credit for completing your website (splash page & linked files), you must place a copy of your folder on the designated server in the Website folder and hand me a signed and completed checklist.

You are very close and there is no reason to receive an incomplete on this project you have worked on throughout the semester.
I will be in the TechLounge Monday thru Thursday for the next 2 weeks to answer questions and assist you with meeting this essential goal.

Yours very truly,
Jeannene Hansen
